Schools and clinical sites work together throughout the clinical education process to ensure students are well prepared for their future careers in health care. Clinical rotations afford students the opportunity to not only see what a career is like in their desired field, but also to see what the work environment is like at a particular clinical site. Rotations also provide clinical sites with the opportunity to see which students may be a good fit for their organization.
The ACEMAPP team is working with a number of innovative clinical education and human resources professionals who are working together to improve talent sourcing and recruitment. Through this work, our team has identified 4 ways health care recruiters can leverage clinical education improve the talent sourcing process:
1. Distributing Evaluations
Evaluations are a great way to collect information from students, faculty, staff, and preceptors during and after clinical rotations. They allow you to see whether students are having positive experiences, which preceptors are doing an exceptional job, and whether there are areas for improvement within the clinical education process. Evaluations can also be assigned to staff and preceptors in order to get their honest feedback about a student’s performance.
2. Connecting with Candidates at the Right Time
While many students do not apply for jobs until they are about to graduate, or once they have officially graduated, we’ve found that many students begin looking at job opportunities early on. By having your job opportunities posted and available to students before graduation, they may begin to understand what is required for their ideal job. They also have quick access to “express interest” in specific jobs so they may connect with a recruiter one-on-one. Sharing job opportunities with candidates while they’re still students allows you to be at the top of their mind when it comes time to apply for opportunities.
3. Working With Schools
Schools want their students to find quality job opportunities after graduation that will fit their long-term goals. As you begin to post new jobs in ACEMAPP, consider contacting your local school partners (via the Coordinator Report or Forums) to share your opportunities.
4. Storing Data
Information on great candidates should be available and accessible indefinitely. That way, if you receive an application from someone who attended clinicals at your site several years before, you may review their clinical rotation history, evaluations, professional references, and any other pertinent information.
